01
The name
Bindu means ‘the point of origin’. Both the beginning and the destination. From the meeting (Bosberaad), to the wandering (Bartàs), to the arrival (Bindu), the circle is complete.
02
The variety
Chenin Blanc has a remarkable ability to adapt to extreme conditions. Here, it reveals a raw, concentrated, and vibrant expression, carrying the imprint of a hard and tough place.
03
The vineyard
Set in a dry and unforgiving landscape, the vines must struggle to survive. The soils are shallow and restrictive, which limits deep root growth but encourages concentrated flavors in the grapes due to natural water stress.
04
The story
Chenin Blanc vines, planted in 1988, on sandstone/mudstone soils, in Vredendal. The harsh conditions and limited water availability play a defining role in the character of the wine. Hand picked and whole bunch pressed into old oak barrels, where the juice ferments naturally. The wine is matured in 500 litre barrels for 10 months, before being racked and bottled. No fining, no filtration, just a touch of sulphur.
05
The descriptors
On the nose, floral aromatics open into notes of pineapple and yellow fruit. The palate is both smooth and structured, with a certain tension between roundness and grip. A precise and focused wine, with length and freshness that contrast its rugged origin.
